St. Albans The Way We Were

This unique DVD combines old photos and cine film to present a fascinating look back at life in St. Albans from the 1850’s to the 1950’s.

It recalls major events in the development of St. Albans such as the coming of the railway, the creation of Verulamium Park and the impact of two world wars. It captures the celebrations to commemorate landmarks in the city’s history and reveals the extraordinary determination of local people to protect their heritage.

It also provides fascinating glimpses of many aspects of everyday life in the St. Albans of old including, the heyday of the stagecoach’ the hardship in the poorer districts; the lively scenes in Market Place on a Saturday night and the chaos that often surrounded the cattle market in St. Peters Street.
